1960s Ranch Kitchen Remodel

We updated the kitchen in this forty-year-old home.

In the picture above you can see another example of the lighting that we recommend installing in kitchens.  The recessed cans in the ceiling can be installed on a dimmer switch so that the lights can be on to their full wattage or be dimmed for mood lighting.  You can also see xenon under-cabinet lighting, which is a wonderful feature to use while preparing food.  Please also note the vent hood that we installed over the stove.  Vent hoods in this bold style really draw the eye and become a centerpiece in the kitchen.  In this particular kitchen, the stainless steel stove and vent hood balance across from the stainless steel fridge that you can see below.

We also installed the new tile floor, using a larger, 18 x 18 tile, which really updates the room.

One other characteristic of this kitchen to note is the beautiful new cabinetry.  The cabinets are made of pine, with stainless steel bin pulls to match the new appliances.  Some of the upper cabinets have reeded glass insets in the doors instead of wood insets.  These serve a couple of purposes.  Only the cabinets surrounding the new vent hood have the glass feature, which leaves the other cabinets for foodstuffs.  The glass gives the cabinets a much more open feeling and makes the transition from a wide expanse of stainless steel to the wood a bit gentler on the eye.
