American Foursquare Renovation with Arts and Crafts style design
Stencil Preservation
We pulled down the existing wallpaper in the entranceway and uncovered the original decorative stencil design pictured below. It was applied directly onto the plaster. Luckily, in this room, the plaster was in fairly good shape, so we were able to leave the original design showing.

We made our own stencil based on this stencil, so we could carry the design into the rest of the house, where the plaster had already been covered up with drywall. Just to the left when you walk into the house is a wide, open stairwell, pictured below. You can see our copied stencil at the top.

We also applied a special finish to the drywall here to make it look more like plaster, so it would match the original plaster left at the entranceway just below this. We carried this same theme throughout the upstairs hallway, and back down the other stairwell at the other end of the house.
